Death of Spouse or Dependent
An employee who loses a spouse or dependent should consider the following when confronted with this difficult situation. If you would rather someone assist you with these changes, please contact your campus UPB Benefits Services office.
Depending on whether the deceased family member was covered under your benefit plan, or you were covered on your deceased spouse's plan, you may need to make corresponding changes to your benefits.
Changes to the following benefits must be submitted within 60 days of the event. If these changes are not completed during that time, they will need to be initiated during the next Benefit Choice period.
It is also very important that you update your beneficiary designations, which can be completed at any time.
