An employee requesting this leave is not required to have exhausted all accrued vacation leave, compensatory leave, sick leave, disability leave and any other leave granted to the employee.

Approval

The employee shall give at least 14 days' notice of the intended date upon which the civil air patrol leave will commence, if leave will consist of 5 or more consecutive work days. Employees taking Civil Air Patrol Leave for less than 5 consecutive days shall give the employer advanced notice as is practical.

The employee must provide certification from the proper Civil Air Patrol authority to verify the employee's eligibility for the civil air patrol leave requested.

Length of Leave

Civil Air Patrol Leave allows for up to 30 days of unpaid leave to an employee performing a Civil Air Patrol mission.

Benefits Continuation

Benefits shall be continued by the University as mandated by State and Federal legislation. Employees should contact the campus UPB Benefits Service Center for complete information about continuation of insurance coverage and any premium payments.

Compensation

Employees have the option to take Civil Air Patrol Leave with or without pay. To continue in pay status, employees must use accrued vacation leave in accordance with University leave provisions.

Returning from Leave

An employee returning from Civil Air Patrol Leave will be restored to the position held by the employee when the leave commenced or to a position with equivalent seniority status, employee benefits, pay, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Workplace Guidelines

Civil Air Patrol Leave is provided for under State of Illinois Public Act 095-0763 - Civil Air Patrol Leave Act.
